Aging Resources of Douglas County began in 1998 as a county program called Neighbor Network. The program started with just three volunteers and two clients, but as it developed over the years, the demand for services increased dramatically. Between 2000 and 2010, the county experienced rapid growth in its older population, nearly tripling in just a decade.
In 2013, Karie Erickson became Executive Director of Neighbor Network and aligned with the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center to obtain a nonprofit status. Neighbor Network continued to add new services, members, and staff while maintaining close ties with the county.
In 2019, Neighbor Network received its 501c3 status, split from the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center and changed its name to Aging Resources of Douglas County. Today, Aging Resources of Douglas County serves as the one-stop center for aging; with programs that include Volunteer Services, Resource Navigation, and Education & Outreach.

I was laid off from a senior manager's job with a large state agency at age 62. My resume always got me an interview but they always hired someone younger. The chairman of one search committee all but admitted that they hired another candidate because of my age. ACPHS was the only employer who offered me a position.

After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping?
