Non-executive employees who hit 50 are immediately discriminated against, subtly sometimes, blatantly others. In any event, the company is a very unfriendly environment for non-execs over 50, over 40 even. Execs, however, are exempt from this because they are, as they tell us frequently, "too valuable to replace."
Won't even respond to applications when they figure out your age.
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service's enduring mission is to make the lives of Soldiers and Airmen better through the goods and services we offer. The Exchange goes where Soldiers, Airmen and their families go to improve their quality of life through retail goods and services. Exchange earnings provide dividends to quality-of-life programs. The Exchange is part of the Department of Defense and is directed by a Board of Directors, responsible to the Secretaries of the Army and Air Force through the Chiefs of Staff. This year, the Exchange celebrates 121 years of service.
I worked at Army and Air Force Exchange full-time. It is a great company to work for but I didn't get enough hours to make a full pay check.

Testimonials:
After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping? I am grateful to your agency for providing the results of your survey and your commitment to provide older workers with reliable job leads.
