I worked for them one day.! And I quit! I am deaf in one ear, they make you wear earphones in the other ear and answer the busy phones at the same time as waiting on heavy volume of customers. If you are deaf in one ear, how can you answer a phone with the other ear while people are talking into an earpiece that is stuck in your ear? It is impossible. While working with customers, answering phones and listening for the earpiece, you also must greet every customer that walks through the door, while learning an incredibly complicated register system with many codes attached, while making popcorn and tearing down the popcorn machine which is very heavy, and you are sweeping and cleaning bathrooms, while setting signs out in front of store! Are they kidding?? For $10 an hour? They needed 5 people to do one person's job. The manager was mean when I went to get my check, and he said "NO one stays here long, they don't want to work." ! Is he kidding? The employees were very nice to me, young kids, but that job was a joke. I have been in the workforce over 50 years, and have never encountered a worse place to work. He sets you up for a fall the very first day.

I know someone who had worked at Acosta for 30+ years. As soon as this person reached retirement age, Acosta made the work environment very difficult, not only for this person, but for every peer of that age group, rendering them all to "retire". After years of service, no atta boys, no nothing. I would not recommend this company to anyone!

Pay isn't the greatest, so seems hiring older people is something the do. Benefits are very good.

After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping? I am grateful to your agency for providing the results of your survey and your commitment to provide older workers with reliable job leads.
