Advance Auto absolutely practices age discrimination during the hiring process. It is a disgrace that they are listed as age friendly. You should be ashamed.

I was never treated unfairly due to age nor did I observe it. The place has a lot of other issues, age bias was not one of them.

Different managers treat older employees fair and some treat them like they should not be working there. They also fail to take into consideration that most older employees would not be working if they didn't need too. Not all older employees only held positions in a auto parts store.

The specifically ask you on the job application if you are between a certain age bracket. If you are not they will not allow you to continue the application. Clearly age discrimination.

My husband was terminated unjustly. He was asked how much time he had left to work during his interview, and when he did not answer this and was subsequently hired and his age known (he is younger than he looks), he was treated shabbily and terminated with a questionable reason, without ever having been notified of an issue. He had recently qualified for a bonus and raise, and just after that, he was terminated.

I have worked for this company on and off for 4 years and I will be 67 years old in 2 weeks, and I can assure you, they DO NOT discriminate based on age, and it is a very enjoyable company to work for. The supervisors that I have had are 1st class individuals, and extremely fair!!!!!

Age is not a problem with this company, but you can't have a life with this company as they will tell you glowing stories about how much you will work, but you will get one or two days a week while never letting your know when or if you will be working. You have to check your schedule daily and your work days will be there one day, gone the next. You can plan something only to see at the last minute you are scheduled. There is little consistency with this company.

I have worked with them on and off for the last 3 1/2 years and I have never had an issue. Questions are based on youe experience and not your age.

Advantage Hired me @ the age of 59. Age was never a topic. They not only met my present salary @ the time, but exceeded it by .75. I only needed to ask for it and the Manager went to bat to get it for me.

Testimonials:

After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping? I am grateful to your agency for providing the results of your survey and your commitment to provide older workers with reliable job leads.
