I'm a registered medical assistant with 15 years worth of experience and an administrative assistant. I went on an interview in fact two interviews with renown hospital and the manager and I were getting along great she said I was answering every question with the right answer and we were laughing and it was going great. Then this other young woman came in who apparently was a manager of that department she was about 26, and she sort of got around the age question by asking me how many years and the way she said it was kind of degrading that I had been a medical assistant after I answered her you know even the manager of the department kind of gave her a funny look and then the interview was over. I really thought with the repor with the other supervisor that I was going to get the job well I never got called for the job this happened to me twice with this institution. I even had worked on a special project barely a year before with one of the administrators of renown and he praised me for what a great job I had done on the special project for him and said that I was valuable I would be a valuable employee. When I mentioned his name she made a smart remark about the fact that oh my god that will must have been years ago. The other manager gave her a funny look and the interview was over. I never got called for the job I feel that these young managers today are very discriminatory I heard that 37 is the cutoff age I am a widow with a handicapped son who needs to work, I do not need to be out there and be disgrace or made fun of when I need to work. I really need to find an employer who would appreciate all my experience which I've been told on other interviews but again never got the job. I need to find an employer whose is age friendly because I do need to work. Very ashamed of the world out there today and the way it's changing, and the treatment of older workers.

Testimonials:
After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping? I am grateful to your agency for providing the results of your survey and your commitment to provide older workers with reliable job leads.
