They hire young college graduates and interns. Once you been with them many years and have higher end pay scale they do everything they can to push you out so they can get young people in at lesser pay.

I have made numerous applications to MetLife for employment and have had 3 sets of interviews. I was well-qualified for the positions and I thought the interviews went quite well, based on interviews I have had in the past for positions for which I was hired.

This is a youth oriented company and extremely political in that it is not what you know but who you know. If there is something they don’t like about you, they make the work environment very difficult with you quitting as the goal. And remember, HR is NOT on your side and layoffs are common.

This company assigns meanial jobs to older employees and if they ask for training to be able to learn a new skill, the opportunity is not available. However, younger employees without experience are given training opportunities.

Testimonials:

After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping? I am grateful to your agency for providing the results of your survey and your commitment to provide older workers with reliable job leads.
