Depends where in where in Raytheon you are. With my current set of managers, age is not an issue, just crank out the work. In general, if you are 25 years old and not in management, your time is limited. Over 40? Pick your salary carefully, 'cause there are not too many pay raises in your future.

Employer disposed of higher paid engineers for younger lower paid engineers fresh out of college. There is a great danger to devote your career to this company and to be led out the door when you've had a successful career with over 20 years investment but a target when you reach age 50.

Once you hit 50 years old, you are a goner. Very few people over 50 work at this company. They only hire college graduates, too. I was hired, but I sensed a reluctance. I was never once encouraged and I was let go after one year with a story about budget problems. It was too painful to ask why I was the one let go. I was able to see the work of others in my position and I know that my work was better than many of the other mentors'.

Testimonials:

After reading the comments by those who express their perspective of age related discriminating practices by more than a few employers, I felt very concerned for older workers that need/desire employment. I wonder if these employers understand that it is not just the revenue from young adults that keep them in business. I wonder how they would survive if the older generation would stop supporting their businesses. I also wonder if these employers understand the principle of sowing and reaping? I am grateful to your agency for providing the results of your survey and your commitment to provide older workers with reliable job leads.
